Mrs. Drinkwine * Counselor

           Mrs. Drinkwine

I am Mrs. Drinkwine and I joined the staff at Central Elementary in 2000.  I have a son in college and a son who is in high school.  I had two dogs who were my babies before I had children, and as I found out, raising children is much harder than training dogs!

I believe that schools, parents and guardians need to work together towards the common goal of helping children to be healthy and successful students.  Many of our young students face challenges which impact them at school.  Many of our students’ families face challenges that impact children at school.  I am here to assist and advocate for all students so they can make progress in academic areas, social skills, and coping with personal issues.   I am also here as a resource to assist families and staff.

Focus Areas:

  • I provide classroom lessons about topics like, personal safety, problem solving, friendship, cooperation, study skills, handling teasing and bullying and finding personal strengths.
  • In small school counseling groups I can provide help to students who need assistance with social skills, friendship, managing anger, coping with family changes, grief and self-esteem.
  • I work individually with students on problem solving, conflict resolution, and as a resource for possible health and safety issues.
  • I can provide parents with information about community resources.
  • I am the 504 case manager for all students who have a 504 accommodation plan for a disability.
  • I am the Homeless Liaison for our school
  • I train and schedule our older students to help on the playground as Student Conflict Managers.
  • I address attendance concerns and follow up with families to resolve problems affecting attendance.

Educational Background and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Boise State University
  • Master of Education in School and Community Counseling from The College of Idaho

I am also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.  Before I came to Central, I was a counselor in the community, working in the area of chemical dependency.  I have have enjoyed counseling adults and children of all ages, but I love working with students in schools.
